I am a PhD student at the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue University. I joined Asha about 2 and half years ago and I can see the impact it has on the lives of the children who really need such help to grow in society. Where will the money be used? Asha supports projects in India dedicated to the education of socially and economically backward sections of India. Asha Purdue is currently involved in seven projects scattered in various states.
To give an idea, one of our projects, Naari Gunjan, based near Patna, is an initiative to educate the women belonging to the Musahar community. It is the most backward in even in the category of backward communities. Naari Gunjan has been doing this work since 30 years, empowering the women there. To know more about the projects check out Asha’s project page. Will the money be really used for above causes? Yes, every penny of it. Asha is a volunteer run organization. The overhead cost is very low. And at Asha Purdue, all the events are organized using University grants. No donation money is used for any administration related work. All the expenditure by the projects is also very transparent. You can find the detailed financial reports on the website.
Will your contribution make a difference? Any donation is valuable, no matter the amount. $5 can support the daily needs of an orphan for a week, $10 can buy books for a kid for a year and $20 can fund a kid’s education for a month! So no amount is small. It won’t make a difference to your pocket, but it means a lot to a kid in India. It is an undeniable fact that education is a grass root level problem in India. Through Asha, I am trying to make a very small contribution towards improving this situation. Support me in this cause and help me reach my target. I believe that if we all come together to make a change in society, be that in any form, the world will become a better place every day.
